Alex Platjouw is a visual artist from the Netherlands. I like to work on portraits of women who share the same quality: They have an inner peace. I try to capture the beauty they contain. I work with pastels and digital. The drawings get a lot of depth because I work on them for a long time. I print the final drawing with quality dyes on structured paper.
I was appointed as an expressionist at the art academy, but I consider my work as romantic and I also long for impressionism. My work is about the individual who tries to be himself in an ever-changing world, and prefers to dwell in his own thoughts, and finds peace in peace with himself. The people I portray are strongly convinced of their own world. They prefer to be left alone, but they do want to be seen. They pay a lot of attention to their appearance. Their character is always good, and is intended as an example for the viewer. As an invitation to contemplation. I am strongly attracted to the world of faith and silence. Especially in this society where silence is scarce.
